- Al-Kabir: The Great, The Greatest
Symbol: A person washing another’s feet
God says, “I am among you as one who serves.”
Dear God, You are The Great and The Greatest.
The word Great is a title given to few human beings,
Usually only to those of unprecedented achievement.
You are the paradigm and archetype
Of all good attributes and adjectives.
You are Great Everything, The Greatest Everything.
All human or creaturely excellence weakly mirrors Your greatness.
You are “Beyond the Beyond.”
And yet You became a human being who said,
“The greatest of you shall be servants.”
Thank You for redefining greatness.
I am sorry for identifying greatness with my limited desires.
Help me seek the greatness of service.
- Al-Hafiz: The Preserver
Symbol: An atom
God says, “I never stop creating and protecting.”
Dear God, You are The Preserver.
You not only created everything,
You preserve it in existence from second to second.
Your immanent presence and love
Keep the universe from falling into nothingness.
You try to preserve and protect me
When I want to become less than who I really am.,
You preserve me on the path to the goals of my life.
You protect me from all that would harm me.
Thank You for staying involved in Your creation.
I am sorry for forgetting Your presence.
Help me be a preserver of Your presence and love.
- Al-Muqit: The Sustainer, The Nourisher, The Protector
Symbol: A loaf of bread
God says, “I am the Bread of Life.”
Dear God, You are The Sustainer, The Nourisher, and The Protector.
You keep providing me with all that I need:
For my body, my mind, my heart, and my spirit.
You sustain me when I become tired.
You nourish me when I become weak.
You protect me when I become vulnerable.
You support and uplift me
Through food, friends, and good fortune.
Thank You for always being there for me.
I am sorry for forgetting to sustain, nourish, and protect others.
Help me to be Your Bread for the world.
