61 Destroyer, 62 Living, 63 Self-Existing

  1. Al-Mumit: The Giver of Death, The Destroyer

Symbol:        A cloud with a lightning bolt

God says, “I give and I take away. I am the Lord of the Dance.”

Dear God, You are The Giver of Death and The Destroyer.

Paradoxically, You give life and You also give death.

Without death there can be no room for new life.

Our planet would die if there were no death.

You don’t really take life.

You give the gift of death.

Death is the last transition on our journey to You.

Death is not just a door closing;

It is a door opening into something better.

Death is not just an event; it is a journey.

Thank You for the great gift of death.

I am sorry for failing to remember friends who have died.

Help me celebrate their transition

Rather than just mourn their passing.

  1. Al-Hayy: The Living One, The Ever-Living One

Symbol:        A flame

God says, “I live in you, and you live in Me.”

Dear God, You are The Living One and The Ever-Living One.

You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

You are Life and the source of Life.

Your life is everlasting and never ending.

Once begun, life cannot end.

Your eternal life draws us into eternal life.

Death is not the end of life,

Only a transition and a change of life.

Thank You for the gift of life.

I am sorry when my busyness ignores Your timelessness.

Help me trust in Your everlasting life.

  1. Al-Qayyum: The Self-Subsisting, The Self-Existing One

Symbol:        A square inscribed in a circle

God says, “Mother or father had I none.”

Dear God, You are The Self-Subsisting and The Self-Existing One.

Everything has a cause, except You.

You are the Uncaused cause.

You are dependent on no one,

But everyone depends on You.

You need no one,

But You welcome all.

If the universe and the void should fall out of existence,

You would still exist.

Thank You for bringing me into existence.

I am sorry for the times I do not notice the existence of people around me.

Help my limited existence praise your eternal existence.
