79 Beneficient, 80 Ever-Returning, 81 Forgiving

  1. Al-Barr: The Beneficent, The Good, The Source of All Goodness

Symbol:         The Sun

God says, “My goodness will always shine on you and through you.”

Dear God, You are The Beneficent, The Good, and The Source of All Goodness.

A man asked Jesus,

“Good Master, what shall I do to obtain eternal life?”

And Jesus told him that God alone is good.

Jesus is the Incarnation of Your goodness,

And I am the incarnation of Jesus’ goodness.

The light of goodness within me is Your goodness, not mine.

Let people look at me and see You, my beneficent Father.

Usually when I use the word good, it is relational,

Good for something.

You alone are good for everything.

Sometimes I seem almost good for nothing.

Thank You for trying to share Your goodness with me.

I am sorry for times when I turned away from that goodness.

Help me call You alone “My good and my all.”

  1. Al-Tawwab: The Ever-Returning, The Acceptor of Repentance

Symbol:         The Sacred Heart of Jesus

God says, “Come back to me. I cannot stop loving you.”

Dear God, You are The Ever Returning and The Acceptor of Repentance.

Loving Father, I am Your lost and repentant child,

You daily walk down the road hoping to welcome me back.

You ever return to me,

Even before I am ready to return to You.

To repent means to have a change of heart.

Please change my heart. Give me a heart transplant.

Replace my cold, stony heart with Your soft, warm heart of love.

Replace my heart with the heart of Jesus, Your Son.

Thank You for Your great heart.

I am sorry for the times I have been cold-hearted or heartless.

Help me open my heart.

  1. Al-‘Afuww: The Forgiver, The Pardoner

Symbol:         A hand raised in absolution

God says, “I forgive more than seven times seventy times.”

Dear God, You are The Forgiver and The Pardoner.

You are mercy beyond measure,

Forgiveness beyond formula.

Pardon beyond parameter.

God the Giver, when from Your abundance

You have given All the gifts that You can give,

You dip into Your well of pardon

And draw forth living waters of forgiveness.

You forgive me

Even before I ask for forgiveness.

Thank You, O Hard to Offend and Forgetter of Faults.

I am sorry for my sins.

Help me turn sadness to repentance to joy.
